Happy Thursday, friends! Something exciting happened at our lake house today! Come see a few changes to the front of the house at Happy Hill!
This project has been a long time coming. Ever since we bought the lake house, the flat roof on the front has continued to deteriorate. We knew there would come a time when the flat roof needed to be removed and replaced. Apparently, today was that day! This is how the front of the house looked this morning…
As you can see, the flat roof was rotting quickly. It was simply a matter of time.
The front door is covered by the original 1970’s roof. The underside of the flat roof is peg board. I imagine this was installed because of its light weight. But there are probably a million dead bugs in between the peg board and studs.
So, I left the house for a few hours and came home to this. The flat roof was gone! It was sawed into a dozen pieces with the chain saw. Who says a chain saw can’t be used for demo day?
And here is the front of the newly exposed entry way. Oh dear. The decking, the brick wall, railings and small shrubs are next to come out. And hopefully we can finally get rid of that Monkey Grass? Please, Lord.
So what’s next? Guessing a few trips to the dump to dispose of the former roof?
And a quick before and after. The plan is to replace the flat roof with a pitched roof over the center of the front door and an angled roof on each side. Meanwhile, the flooring is rotted too, so that will need to be replaced before anything else happens with the new roof. Thank goodness for a handy husband!
So, demo day #1 down in the books! Congratulations to my handy husband for all of his hard work! I’ll keep you posted on what happens next. I have a feeling we will be using the back door as our entry point for quite a while! Thanks for stopping by! oxox Dell
