We have a running joke in my family that everything I buy is $20. It started out to be true, but sometimes I stretch the truth a bit and I always round down….
Twenty is such a good even number and so handy it comes in one neat bill. Rarely do I have cash in my wallet but if I do, it’s a 20. Which makes purchases quick and negotiable! Sometimes something is two twenty dollar bills which still makes it twenty dollars give or take. See?
Really and truly some of my favorite things have been $20. Case in point, this awesome wall sconce. It is heavy and huge, made of brass and black wrought iron. This is one of the few things that I have NOT painted. Granted, I bought it 20 years ago, but still. A great find. I haul it from house to house. I love it. We use wall anchors and screws to hold it securely. It would do serious damage if it fell!
Another $20 score is this marble top antique table. I bought it from an online garage sale. The marble was cracked but with a bit of E6000 glue and some chalk paint, it turned out to be a darling little table! I used an antiquing glaze on it which added to the charm and detailing on the legs.
Last weekend I found this pretty concrete corbel at a barn sale. It is very heavy and a wood top. I’m not sure if it’s a table or what exactly but I took a picture of the price tag as proof. I think I’ll paint it and take it to the lake. It will be perfect beside a chair to put a drink or a book.
Several years ago I purchased these vintage wall sconces for $20 each. I painted them white and hung them in the guest bathroom at the lake house. They flank a heavy white mirror that was a few multiples of 20.
It’s amazing what you can find online! I found several rocking chairs on Craigslist for $20 each. Most of the rockers are in pretty good shape and we put a fresh coat of white paint on them each season. One, rocker was not as lucky and it got broken at the arm and back of the seat. Rather than toss the chair my industrious husband screwed on a few metal plates and it lives for another season! It might look better with some paint over the plates, but we pretend it’s the new industrial look.
I enjoy shopping and love getting a great bargain! I find it fun and challenging to decorate our home with unique and one of a kind accessories that tell a good story. What is your favorite bargain treasure? Please share with me on Facebook, or Instagram! And, I’m about to start a Twitter thing, so I’ll keep you posted on that! Thanks so much for following along!
