This week while reading my new Better Homes and Garden magazine I ran across a page on home organization. Refrigerator organization to be exact! It had some great ideas and got me thinking…..
We got a new refrigerator about a year ago. I love the french doors on the top with the freezer on the bottom. It has nice compartments on the sides and of course the shelves are adjustable. So, when I saw the article about the organized refrigerator, I was inspired!
My husband and I have been trying to eat a healthier diet with less carbs, fat and sugar. I hardly buy anything on the inside isles of the grocery store anymore, mostly sticking to the outer perimeter. I love spring and summer when vegetables and fruits are easier to come by. We have some great little farmer’s markets around here and they seem to have better prices and fresher produce than the stores. So, it’s the perfect time to stock up! (I will plant my own little mini garden soon.) I followed the cues from the magazine and used some of my everyday serving pieces to hold fresh fruits and snacks. By having everything washed and front and center makes it easier to grab a healthy snack on the go. I am such a snacker, this is perfect for me. 🙂
I cut up pineapple, strawberries, kiwi, and bell peppers and put them in plastic containers. I hard boiled some eggs so they are ready to eat for a quick filling snack. I loved the lazy susan they had in the article so I’ll keep my eye out for one. Such a cool idea in a fridge for milk and juices. Hopefully now that everything is so organized, things won’t go to waste and it will be a reminder to eat healthy snacks. And we can have fresh, clean fruits and veggies to pop into the blender for a quick smoothie, too! If you have young children you can have cut up veggies in individual containers with some yogurt or ranch dressing for another grab and go snack. With such a big variety of containers on the market these days, they have tons to choose from! I liked the cheese sticks in a cup idea, too.
I love my infused water bottles that my son gave me for Christmas! I’m trying to use these with the filtered water from the fridge instead of bottled water. I’m looking forward to lots of yummy snacks and meals this spring and I hope this will inspire me to keep my fridge neat and clean and stick to our healthy diet!
