Happy 2018 Everyone! Who else is pumped about the New Year? In keeping with one of my resolutions, I went to the gym first thing this morning and now I’m about to start the de-Christmasing task. And boy is it a big one! But before I begin, I’m taking a quick look at Christmas decorations in my boy’s rooms one last time and show you how the snow ski decorations turned out!
One of my favorite DIY projects this year was making a wall decoration out of my boy’s very first pair of snow skis. It was a quick and easy project that required little more than wire, Command Strips, some ribbon and a few greenery picks. They turned out so sweet! Hoarding does pay off. I’m so glad I kept them all these years…
I hung each pair over the twin beds in my younger son’s room. Although he is 6’3″ and a bit too tall for these beds now, he and his little puppy Delilah made do for a few days over the Christmas holiday.
To hang the skis I wired them together using thin but heavy duty wire and formed a loop on the back. I used OOK hooks to secure them to the wall. I think they are so precious and bring back fond memories. Naturally I still have the tiny ski boots that go with the skis. I’m thinking another decoration for next year!! Right?
I added some patchwork plaid flannel shams, Pottery Barn pillows and white fluffy throws for a set of cozy beds. It was the perfect Christmasy room with one bed for my son and the other for his miniature dachshund, Delilah!
This is Little Miss D. (Delilah) Isn’t she a cutie pie?
On the other side of the room is the vintage dresser and mirror from my childhood. The Santa and lighted Christmas tree are treasured classics we put out every year.
Do you have one of these vintage ceramic trees? This one also plays music. I love the “snow” on the tips of the tree and the combination of lights, butterflies and birds.
This is my older son’s room all decked out for Christmas. I repainted the room a few months ago and switched around some of the furniture. I painted both of the boy’s rooms in Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige. I love how much lighter the wall color is now. For the holidays I added a vintage poster from the basement and some red accents and pillows. As always I like to add touches of black in every room.
The antique bed is a full size and one of my favorite finds. It was white originally and I painted it black. Of course. I had a string of butterfly lights on hand and draped them across the headboard for fun.
My son and new daughter in law slept in here at Christmas along with their new puppy, Belle. It was a house full with 3 dogs and seven people. We loved every minute!
Here is a tired Baby Belle snuggled in the closet near her Daddy’s boots. Such a cutie! (In case you are wondering about the odd lighting, I put a disco light bulb in the back entry for Christmas. Totally non functional as a light but a fun effect.)
Well, back to reality and time to take down the decorations! And not a moment too soon as our family has another wedding to plan this year and a 60th wedding anniversary party for my parents. 2018 will be another fun filled, banner year. Along the way there will be some house hunting, house selling, party planning, decorating, DIY projects and cooking, etc. I’d love for you to come along for the ride! Happy New Year, my friends! Stay warm! xoxo Dell
