Happy Tuesday, Friends! Can you believe how warm it is for Autumn? It feels like summertime. Meanwhile, I thought I’d share a quick update on the Pantry Door knob. (Yes, I changed it again.)
If you recall I recently replaced the 1970’s door knob on our pantry door at Happy Hill, our lake house. This is the original door knob. An old school plain brass door knob. Nothing to write home about.
I switched out the dated knob with a vintage rusty knob and escutcheon I found on eBay. The small set screws on the knob were missing and I wasn’t able to find any that fit. Therefore, every time you turned and pulled the knob to open the pantry, the knob came off in your hand. Not ideal for a pantry. (I’m still a fan of the ornate rusty knob.)
Since my husband prefers an actual functioning doorknob, I tried a few different options I had on hand. The glass knob on the right was the one I bought originally for the pantry door, but I needed an escutcheon plate to cover the large round opening of the old knob.
You can see the large opening of the old knob. There was no covering this up without a back plate or escutcheon.
So I had to play mix and match with my door parts. I tried a few different glass knobs, but in the end only one pair fit.
I discovered the glass door knob I originally intended to use fit perfectly! So, I switched out the rusty knobs for the vintage glass door knobs. I admit I like it much better! And it works. I think it needs a little WD40 in order to make the knob turn more easily, but other than that, I love it! Who doesn’t love a good glass door knob?
I found four small set screws to secure the escutcheon to the door, then I attached the glass door knob. I may need to paint the inside of the keyhole black to make it look like an actual hole. Perhaps I am overthinking this?
At any rate, I finally have my pretty door knob on the pantry door. It’s not that big of a change, but sometimes it’s the smallest of things that give me pleasure. Like a phone call from my boys. Or a hug!
I hope you have a lovely day! Thank you for stopping by. I love it when you do! xox Dell
