I am very sentimental about my family. Therefore I love it when family pieces make their way from one generation to another. Even if it is something very small or seemingly insignificant. Like a piece of a metal screen door!
This piece of a metal screen door once graced the front screen door of my grandparent’s house.
I suppose when they sold the house the new owners didn’t need a “B” on their front porch door. My Dad took off the panel and kept it. For years and years in his garage. Finally, about 14 years ago he asked if I wanted it. Really I had forgotten about it. But since my maiden name and married name begin with the letter B, it seemed destined to be mine!
The panel was silver to begin with, which matched the original storm door. But because I paint everything either white or black, it was a no-brainer it would be one or the other. I painted it black. It hung for many years in our Northern house, but as soon as we bought the lake house, I knew it needed to go back home where it belonged. North Carolina!
I had hoped it would fit on the metal screen door to the deck but it did not. So, now Mr. B hangs proudly in Mr. E’s house at Happy Hill. We see it every time we walk in the front door. Perfectly Perfect.
