This is one of my favorite pieces. I found it at an antique shop and fell in love. (Again!) Normally a piece like this would cost a pretty penny, but since the marble top was cracked it was a great buy!
I bought it for myself as a birthday present one year. The base is made of black wrought iron and is very heavy by itself. When you add the marble top it is VERY heavy. There are some places on the back of the base where you can affix it to the wall, which I would definitely recommend. But, since it sits in front of a window, this isn’t an option. Also, because we don’t have small children, it’s ok. I does make me a little nervous because Lacey loves to look underneath it and out the front window. I’ve watched her a hundred times and she has it down pat and doesn’t even budge it when she looks out. Whew!
The top was cracked but I repaired it with my favorite glue, E6000. You can hardly see the crack or repair unless you look very closely. I think it adds character!
This piece would look wonderful in a foyer, but I already have something in ours. Next house! I’m not sure how old this console is, but I love its curvy base and the green marble top. It is such a versatile piece that it could go in any number of places. I’m sure if we don’t have a spot for it in our next house, one of the boys will be happy to take it off of our hands! Happy Antiquing!
