It has been a little over four years since we bought our lake house in North Carolina. My husband found the house on Zillow. It had just come on the market and it was love at first sight for both of us. We called a realtor friend and he showed us the house. We immediately made an offer. The rest as they say is history!
The house was originally built in 1970 but it looks as though is was added onto gradually here and there over the years. The house and yard were practically overgrown with ivy. The house was dark and outdated but the view was spectacular and the house itself was full of quirky charm. We knew we could make it our own.
Here are some before and after pictures:
As you can see, paint goes a long way! A LOT of paint! (And a lot of Roundup)
We are only the second homeowners. The gentleman that built it passed away the year before we bought it. He lived to be 96 years old! We hope that it is something in the well water! He and his wife named the house “Happy Hill”. We know that because he carved it into the foundation under the house. We think it suits this place perfectly.
Here are a few more before and afters. We’ve done most of the work ourselves but hired out the plumbing, electrical and the kitchen remodel. We worked with Home Depot for the kitchen design. They were wonderful! We took our measurements to them with our ideas and they mapped it all out on their computer. We ordered it all in PA and had it delivered and installed in NC. The magic of technology!
This is our fifth summer in this house. We still have lots of projects to do but we tinker a little each time we come. The azaleas have been gorgeous this trip! I’ll be posting more of our progress and some of our past remodeling projects soon. Thanks for stopping by!
