Happy Thursday, Friends! We are still in frantic cleaning mode getting our house ready to put on the market soon. I’m cleaning and staging each room as I go, but what do you do with a huge teal sofa? You hide it!
Our plan is to put our house on the market very shortly but first we are going to post pictures of our house on Zillow and see if perhaps we can first sell it ourselves! Meanwhile, I’m cleaning and staging each room. Yesterday I was working on the living room. We’ve had this large teal sofa ever since teal was in style. The first time. (about 30 years ago.) Naturally now the IN color teal is different than this color. Even piling on tons of pillows did little to hide all of that teal.
Yep. That’s a lot of teal.
Yesterday I went to Homegoods and bought a few new throw pillows and found this great faux fur hide for $49.99. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but it was large, soft and neutral. The throw is a whopping 60″ x 78″ so I knew it would cover most of the sofa. It is also less expensive than trying to buy a slip cover and who wants to buy a new piece of furniture when you are about to move? What better way to tone down yards of teal? A decorative faux hide by Artisan de Luxe.
Here’s the sofa with its new make over. It took less than 5 minutes.
It works for me now. I love how the throw softens the dark teal and updates it a bit. The sofa is like new since it hardly gets any use so it seems a shame to buy a new one at this point. I also think it may be moving to D.C. very soon. 😉
And since we hardly sit in the living room, the sofa piled with pillows won’t annoy my husband. For some reason, he doesn’t like to move a mountain of pillows when he sits down. He’s funny that way.
Now the sofa has a more neutral appearance and it makes me happy. Or satisfied is a better way to phrase it. Funny how a few new pillows and a throw can make me happy.
So, someone looking at our house may not give the sofa a second thought but to me it looks much better. I still have some editing to do. I love my knick knacks so it’s been a process paring down my things to a manageable number. But, we are getting there!
A very talented friend of mine came over this afternoon and took pictures of our house with her professional camera.(Thank you, Libby Smith!) She has such a great eye and has a different way of looking at things than I so I know her pictures will be amazing! I will share them with you when I get them. We plan to post her pictures on Zillow when we list the house. If you’d like to see some of my gifted friend’s work, you can check her out on Instagram at photosbylibby6. Her pictures have some of my favorite faces!
It’s getting real, y’all! This house selling thing is happening. Wish us luck. I’ll keep you posted. Meanwhile, I hope you have a great night! xoxo Dell
