When we bought our lake place 5 years ago, our younger son was still in college. We talked him into spending his Spring Break with us at the lake doing some remodeling. Since he still had homework to do we needed to carve out a study space. We found the perfect spot in his room!
The bedrooms at the lake are small. The master bedroom is 11′ x 13′ and I think the other rooms are 9′ x 10′. So furnishing these spaces was pretty simple. A bed (we still managed to squeeze in a queen size bed), a dresser that doubles as a night stand and in this case, a small secretary desk.
We bought the antique secretary desk at an antique store in Pennsylvania and hauled it down to the lake on one of our U-Haul trips. I haven’t decided if I will paint it or not but for now it looks nice in its vintage state. (I’m thinking it might look nice painted white and antiqued) It is very narrow and hugs the wall so it doesn’t take up much space. The secretary has four shelves for storage and the center piece folds down into a desk. It is on a hinge and chain. We pull in a chair from the kitchen and it turns into an instant work space!
Now the boys are out of college and working. Even though everyone tries not bring work on vacation, sometimes it’s necessary to catch up on a few emails or phone calls. This is the perfect little private space! When it’s done, the desk folds back up neatly. And the lake is a stone’s throw away. Work hard, play hard! Thanks for stopping by!
